What I Learned About Wonder from Mike Cosper

Wonder is not a luxury—it’s a spiritual necessity. Mike Cosper shows how awe reawakens discipleship and restores meaning in a disenchanted world.

We live in a world obsessed with measurements, explanations, and logic.

We´re so obsessed with it that it’s left us spiritually drained, searching endlessly for meaning in all the wrong places.

In Recapturing the Wonder, Mike Cosper shakes us awake, reminding us what we’ve lost: the awe-filled life God created us to live.

Somewhere along the way, we stopped asking questions like children.

Remember when everything was a miracle?

Kids don’t make calculated observations about everything. Their eyes are wide, and they wonder at each new discovery. But as adults, we traded imagination for efficiency and curiosity for control.

Jesus didn’t say to become like productivity experts—He said to become like children.

So maybe wonder isn’t something we grow out of. Maybe it’s something we need to grow back into...

Awe is spiritual strength training.

But like any strength, awe doesn’t grow on its own. It’s built through the daily disciplines of discipleship.

Not the kind of discipleship of a Bible study or a church stage.

Cosper explains that real discipleship is found in waking up early to watch the sunrise and thanking God before you check your phone.

It’s praying through pressure, fasting through fear, and praising through pain.

And these are not soft practices. They’re spiritual disciplines training your soul for wonder.

In Matthew 13:44, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to treasure hidden in a field. But here's the catch—you must intentionally seek it.

Real disciples don’t wait for wonder; they chase after it.

Discipline fuels transcendence.

Growth requires pursuing mystery over mechanism, grace over grind, and faith over filters.

When you stop performing and start participating in God’s plan, you move differently.

You lead with conviction.
You love with intention.
You live from a place of authentic worship, not shallow performance.

So, start today. Step outside tonight without notifications, without distractions—just you, the sky, and the presence of God.

Look up as stars fill the night and ask yourself honestly:

When was the last time I let God amaze me?

Let yourself feel small in the best way.
Let awe humble you.
Let hope lift you.

Wonder isn’t soft; it’s sacred warfare.

When your wonder fades, your worship weakens. But when awe returns, so does your fire.

You weren’t created to coast passively through life. You were made to marvel passionately through it.

So go outside. Look up. Breathe deep.

And remember:

You don’t need to understand everything.
You simply need to be amazed by the One who does.
