What I Learned About Self-Worth from the book "Defined"

Most people define themselves by past wounds. But your true identity is found in Christ. You are designed, called, and positioned for impact.

We’ve all played that game—describe yourself in three words.

If you were being truly honest in the deeper parts of your hearts, many of you wouldn’t start with ambitious, focused, driven….

We tend to lead with the labels we’ve picked up from wounds and failures:

Not enough. Insecure. Shy.

We magnify what’s wrong and minimize what’s right.

We see every flaw in high definition, but see our strengths blurry at best.

Now, in their book, Defined, the Kendrick brothers ask the real question:

If God described you in three words, would they be the same?

That gap—that quiet but seismic difference between how you see yourself and how God sees you—is the battleground of identity.

And it’s where real transformation begins.

Not in the hustle. Not in the grind. But in surrender.

You’re not random—you’re designed.

You were handcrafted by God with precision, purpose, and divine intention.

Not mass-produced.
Not accidental.
Intentional.

You exist in Jesus Christ. You are loved and blessed as His child.

And as the Kendricks say, You are broken in your own unique way… and part of God’s plan.”

That means:

Your quirks aren’t flaws.
Your past doesn’t disqualify you.
Your calling isn’t fragile—it’s forged.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works...” —Ephesians 2:10

Stop striving. Start standing.

Standing in who you are in Christ.
Standing in the authority you’ve been given.

Not because you earned it, but because you inherited it.

The world rewards performance. But Heaven moves through position, and your position is in Christ.

So pray like you’re positioned.
Work like you’re called.
Lead like you’re chosen.

Let the Holy Spirit lead your ambition.

Discipline is good.
Drive is necessary.
But without the Spirit, they’re just noise.

And the Spirit doesn’t shout. He nudges:

A whisper to serve.
A prompt to lead.
A conviction to change.

When you listen, you don’t just work—you build.

Not a personal brand. A Kingdom legacy.

You’re not here to be defined by culture. You’re here to be refined by Christ.

You don’t need more hustle.
You need more Holy Spirit.

Redefine your identity.
Reclaim your calling.
Rise—not to impress, but to impact.

Because when Heaven writes your résumé, the three words God uses won’t be “busy, burned-out, and bitter.”

They’ll be: Faithful. Bold. His.
