The Real Currency of Friendship

True friendship is measured not in words but in presence, honesty, and loyalty. Treasure those who show up and reflect God’s steadfast love in your life.

Take a moment and join me in doing something.

Open your phone and scroll through your contacts. Or maybe glance at your list of “friends” on social media.

I’m pretty sure you’ll see hundreds of names, right? People you’ve met, worked with, and gone to school with.

Now, let me ask you a tough question: how many of them truly know you?

Your fears. Your struggles. Your heart…

If you’re honest, that list probably gets really short, really fast.

When life gets messy, you find out who’s really in your corner.

The people who give you what money can’t buy: time, honesty, and loyalty.

Those three things are priceless.

Time is the first sign of love.

When someone gives you their time, they’re giving you something they’ll never get back. That’s sacred.

Showing up, even when it’s inconvenient or when there’s nothing in it for them, is what love looks like.

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

Honesty is the foundation of trust.

Real friends tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear.

They don’t flatter you; they refine you.

Proverbs 27:6 says, “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.”

True friends speak hard truths gently, not to hurt you, but to help you grow.

Loyalty is the rarest treasure of all.

Loyalty shows up when it’s inconvenient.
It stands beside you when life gets messy.
It doesn’t walk away when you fall apart.

Proverbs 17:17 beautifully says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.’

You don’t need a crowd. You need a circle.

So this week, take inventory.

Who are the people giving you the expensive things: their time, their truth, their loyalty?

Treasure them.
Nurture those relationships.

Also, ask yourself the most important question of all: are you that kind of person to them?
