The Knock You Can’t Afford to Ignore

Christmas Eve invites us to slow down, silence the noise, and make room for Jesus. If we’re not careful, busyness becomes the innkeeper that turns Him away.

Picture the scene with me.

Bethlehem is bursting at the seams. People everywhere.
Voices rising. Animals bleating. Merchants calling out.
Door after door swinging open and shut.

And somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, a tired young couple knocks on the door of an inn, hoping someone will make room for them.

But the rooms are full. The innkeeper is overwhelmed.

So he sends them away. He was too distracted to recognize the gift standing right in front of him.

And that’s the part of the Christmas story that hits the most today.

Because we are the innkeepers now.

Noise is everything that keeps you from Jesus.

Our world is loud.

Calendars overflowing. Constant notifications.
Family gatherings, travel plans, holiday pressure, unfinished lists.
We move from one thing to the next without catching our breath.

And somewhere in all the noise, Jesus is quietly knocking:
“Let me in.”
“Let me sit with you.”
“Let me slow your heart.”

But like the innkeeper, we often miss Him…out of busyness.

If the enemy can’t make you sin, he’ll try to make you busy.

This season offers everything except stillness.
Everything except silence.
Everything except space.

Which is why making room for Jesus must be intentional.

Not accidental.
Not leftover time.
Not “if I get around to it.”

The Savior of the world cannot be squeezed into the margins.

So turn down the noise.

Say no to something good so you can say yes to something greater.
Sit for five quiet minutes with Him before you reach for your phone.
Whisper a simple prayer: “Jesus, I don’t want to miss You.”

This Christmas Eve, make room for Jesus.

So, today, ask yourself:

Have I made room for Him?
Or have I filled every corner with lesser things?

The miracle of Christmas is not just that Jesus came.
It’s that He still comes daily into any heart that will open the door.

So tonight, in the middle of the noise and the lists and the tension and the expectations…

Pause.
Breathe.
Listen.
And let Him in.
