The Ghosts That Haunt Me

Don’t let regret haunt your heart. Live fully in God’s grace today. Yesterday can’t be rewritten, but today can still be redeemed.

Today’s all about ghosts, costumes, and spooky stories.

Kids dress up, bound to have the biggest sugar rush of the year.
Carved pumpkins glow in the driveways.
Entire neighborhoods compete to see who has the scariest decorations.

And, between all those decorations and the haunted houses you might visit, you’ll probably skip a beat or two.

But you know what really scares me?

The ghosts that don't need costumes.

The ones that whisper in your own voice when the room goes quiet.

I’m not afraid of haunted houses.
I’m afraid of getting to the end of my life and realizing I could’ve done better.

I’m afraid of the ghost of “What if.”
What if I had taken that chance?
What if I had forgiven sooner?
What if I had been more present, less distracted, more grateful, less afraid?

I’m afraid of the ghost of regret.
The memories of moments I rushed through, conversations I avoided, and dreams I buried because I was too busy trying to play it safe.

And sometimes, I’m haunted by the ghost of comparison.
That quiet, sneaky spirit that whispers, “You should be further along by now.”

But over time, I’ve realized that those ghosts only have power if I let them.

They feed on unfinished moments, unspoken words, and unlived purpose.

The only way to silence the ghosts of regret is to live fully right now.

Ephesians 5:15–16 says, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity.”

You can’t rewrite yesterday, but you can redeem today.
You can’t undo the words you never said, but you can speak life into someone right now.
You can’t relive lost moments, but you can create new, deeper, fuller, more intentional ones.

The scariest ghost is the life you never live ahead of you.

So tonight, when you see the costumes and carved pumpkins, remember this:

The real fear isn’t darkness.
The real fear is letting your days slip by half-awake, half-alive, haunted by “someday.”

Don’t let fear or regret write your story.

You’re still here.
The lights are still on.
And it’s not too late to chase away your ghosts by living with courage today.
