The Equation that Taught a Life Lesson

Criticism is inevitable, but your focus is your choice. Celebrate progress, magnify grace, and remember: growth happens when you choose to see what’s good.

There’s a story about Albert Einstein teaching. One day, he stood at the board and wrote a simple list of equations:

1 × 9 = 9
2 × 9 = 18
3 × 9 = 27

9 × 9 = 81
10 × 9 = 91

The room erupted.  “Sir, that last one is wrong!”

He nodded. “You’re right.” Then he looked around the class.

“I wrote the correct equation nine times, and no one congratulated me. But the moment I made one mistake, everyone noticed and started laughing.”

The room went quiet.

What you focus on grows.

Einstein wasn’t giving a math lesson. He was giving a life one.

The world is quick to criticize and slow to praise.

You can do a hundred things right and still be remembered for the one you missed.

So don’t let criticism define you.

Even Jesus, perfect in every way, faced ridicule, betrayal, and judgment.
Yet He continued to love, serve, and complete the work the Father had given Him.

John 16:33 reminds us, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Criticism is part of the human experience. It’s proof that you’re moving and growing.

So when the comments come (because they will), pause before reacting.

Remember the good in you.
Remember the faithful work no one saw.
Remember who you are in Christ.

Let careless words slide off like rain on armor.
Guard your heart. Guard your focus.

Magnify grace, not fault.

You can’t control who points out your errors. But you can control what you celebrate.

Celebrate progress.
Celebrate effort.
Celebrate growth in yourself and in others.

Be the person who chooses to see good in the world and speaks it out loud.

And most importantly, be frequent in your praise and thoughtful in your criticism.

That’s how light begins to spread.
