It made me think about all the effort and discipline required to get there. The years and years of preparation come down to one jump, one shot, one race…
There’s one sport in particular that I find fascinating: archery.
If you’ve seen an archer take a shot, you must have noticed that when they’re on the field, bow in hand, they don’t pull the string back and fire wildly into the air.
They spend most of their time aiming before releasing a single arrow. They first steady their stance, find their focus, and adjust their line of sight.
If the archer lets go too quickly, without carefully locking onto his target, he’ll miss completely. It doesn’t matter how powerful the bow is or how fast the arrow flies. Without aim, speed is meaningless.
Life works the same way.
You and I live in a culture that celebrates quick results and constant motion. Everyone wants to release as many arrows as possible, as fast as possible. But activity without accuracy only leads to frustration.
Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”
Notice the contrast: diligence versus haste. God isn’t asking you to shoot faster; He’s calling you to aim better.
The Apostle Paul echoed this when he said in 1 Corinthians 9:26, “So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.”
Paul refused to live without direction. He aimed his life with focus and intentionality, guided by the Spirit of God.
So before you take your next big step (whether in business, family, or faith), pause to aim.
Don’t be so eager to release the arrow that you forget to align it. Spend time in prayer. Seek wisdom in God’s Word. Invite trusted voices into the process.
Because when your aim is true, your shot doesn’t have to be rushed. One well-aimed arrow can do more than a hundred fired carelessly.
Slow down. Take aim. And when the moment comes, release with confidence, knowing you’re aligned with God’s purpose.
