Becoming Takes Time

Life under construction may feel slow or frustrating, but God is building strength and maturity in His timing. Trust the process; you’re not behind, you’re becoming.

Not long ago, I was stuck in traffic because of a bridge project. As I sat there, I could see concrete barriers, half-finished lanes, and a mess of orange cones everywhere.

For everyone needing to get somewhere, that bridge was an annoyance.

The random bystander honks in frustration and says, “Why is this project taking forever?”

But the engineer knows better. He knows that it’s right on schedule.

That’s exactly how God views you.

Who you’re becoming matters more than how fast you get there.

We live in a culture where speed and instant results seem to be the norm.

But personal development doesn’t work that way. Like a bridge under construction, you may not see immediate progress, but God is carefully shaping something strong within you.

James 1:4 says, “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Notice that phrase: "finish its work". Maturity isn’t microwaved. It takes seasons, pressure, and patience.

Patience is part of the process.

It can be frustrating when life feels delayed….

When our goals take longer than we thought, when habits don’t change overnight, when prayers aren’t answered right away. But impatience doesn’t speed things up; it just makes the waiting harder.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Notice that last phrase: "in its time." Not mine. Not yours. His.

Trust the process; God is still building.

Maybe right now you feel stuck between who you are and who you want to be. You wish you were more disciplined, more patient, more confident, or more faithful.

But unfinished doesn’t mean failing. It means you’re still in process.

When a bridge finally opens, no one talks about how messy it looked in the middle. They simply admire how strong it is.

In the same way, there will come a day when the qualities God has been building in you carry you farther than you ever imagined.

So if you feel “under construction,” don’t lose heart. You’re not behind; you’re becoming.

And when God’s timing is complete, you’ll see why the wait was worth it.
